We will host small in-person classes of 6-7 students each on the weekends. (Time: 1-4 pm on weekends | Location: public spaces like libraries that will probably vary, but will always be announced >24 hrs before class; we want to accomodate for where our students are) In addition to these, you can and are encouraged to schedule private sessions with our teachers (both online and in-person) throughout the week.
Our team has worked very hard to put together a strong curriculum for the SHSAT using our experience doing professional teaching. Everything is backed by real results of previous students who go on to achieve scores able to get into any specialized high school! Additionally, we even have the feedback of a real Stuyvesant English teacher.
The curriculum is broken into three lectures; with about 4 weeks, or 8 classes, remaining before the test, these lectures will of course be repeated. What this means is you do not need to and should not attend every class. However, for results, we do ask a time commitment outside of class: given the time constraint, we want to make the most of class time, so lectures will mostly be teaching-based and practice material will be given to complete at home to fully understand the method/strategy. Of course, you can request help using private sessions.
We understand the stress of studying for such an important test while also balancing school work, so we will try our best to assign as LITTLE work as possible. We believe in teachers doing the work, and identifying exactly what needs practice, and assigning practice based on that, contrary to the traditional method of tutoring center, doing as much practice as possible. In addition, feel free to ask for HW help as well!
That's completely fine! We will be providing a textbook-like template of the entire curriculum and any practice material to all students, even if you never attend classes!
